Sit and Knit, Bloomfield, CT

The Sit and Knit yarnbombing took place Saturday, September 18th. Here is the result of that day of work on the column! This is my largest yarnbombing EVER!

On city street corners, around telephone posts, through barbed wire fences, and over abandoned cars, a quiet revolution is brewing. “Knit graffiti” is an international guerrilla movement that started underground and is now embraced by crochet and knitting artists of all ages, nationalities, and genders. Its practitioners create stunning works of art out of yarn, then “donate” them to public spaces as part of a covert plan for world yarn domination.

Graffiti knitting, yarnbombing, yarn bombing, yarnstorming is a type of graffiti or street art that employs colorful displays of knitted or crocheted cloth rather than paint or chalk. While yarn installations may last for years, they are considered non permanent, and, unlike graffiti, can be easily removed if necessary.

Yarnbombs are made from cast off projects that will never be finished, odd balls of yarn, that acrylic yarn you bought years ago that will now NEVER be used in a project, or any other yarns that you choose of any fiber!!!
