Mission YARNpossible

When I first found out about yarnbombing I loved the concept and set out to do a little yarnbombing of my own! I challenged myself to yarnbomb each continent, each state, and as many countries as possible. See left column below for the current list...

Meant to personalize or add warmth to cold public places, yarnbombs add color and a soft touch to the sterile nature of a chain link fence, or a concrete jungle. Yarnbombs add color and gaiety to more impersonal areas.

  • Yarnbombed telephone booth near Big Ben
On city street corners, around telephone posts, through barbed wire fences, and over abandoned cars, a quiet revolution is brewing. “Knit graffiti” is an international guerrilla movement that started underground and is now embraced by crochet and knitting artists of all ages, nationalities, and genders. Its practitioners create stunning works of art out of yarn, then “donate” them to public spaces as part of a covert plan for world yarn domination.

Graffiti knitting, yarnbombing, yarn bombing, yarnstorming is a type of graffiti or street art that employs colorful displays of knitted or crocheted cloth rather than paint or chalk. While yarn installations may last for years, they are considered non permanent, and, unlike graffiti, can be easily removed if necessary.

Yarnbombs are made from cast off projects that will never be finished, odd balls of yarn, that acrylic yarn you bought years ago that will now NEVER be used in a project, or any other yarns that you choose of any fiber!!!
